Roger Malmrose and Richard Walkup founded Piranha in February 2013. Since then, the company has grown with a management team that represents some of the most experienced professionals in the industry.

We are a sales driven company whose interest is to serve the customer but it’s really the people at Piranha that make PIRANHA the kind of company it is. We hire people who are smart and very determined, and we favor both ability and experience. Although Piranhas share common goals and visions for the customer, we are a company from all walks of life and speak many languages, reflecting the global audience that we serve. We strive to maintain the open culture often associated with startups, in which everyone is a hands-on contributor and feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions. In our twice daily production meetings—Piranhas ask questions directly to Roger and Richard about any number of issues. Chairman of the Board
Prior to joining Piranha, Roger was Senior Vice President at Boyd Corporation, where he successfully executed two Private Equity financial transactions with Sentinel Capital Partners and Snow Phipps Group. Prior to Boyd, Roger held senior management positions with Flextronics, Benchmark Electronics, Pemstar, Cisco ,Cirrus Logic, Western Digital, and HP. Roger currently sits on Piranha’s Board of Directors as Chairman. Roger holds a JD law degree from Stanford University, an MBA from UCLA, and a BS in Computer Science from Brigham Young University.
Founder, President & CEO
Richard Walkup founded Piranha in January of 2013 and has held central roles in shaping the company. As President and CEO, Richard is responsible for the company’s vision and overall business strategy, which include, customer and partner excellence, business transformation and divestment strategies. Mr. Walkup embarked on his career with ATI followed by SMTC and Benchmark, serving a variety of roles including executive management, operations and business development capacities and being instrumental in launching communications, medical and defense projects in multiple manufacturing regions around the world. He has progressed through both private and public company settings and has a developed a rich track record in performance turn-arounds and growth strategies. Mr. Walkup serves on Piranhas Board of Directors, holds a BS in Business Administration at Cal Poly and earned industry certifications in AQS 6S BB, JSTD, IPC, AIS, Space Flight and CMMI L4.

Al currently serves as CEO of ICU Analytics (NEWCO), a software platform designed to aggregate data in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Emergency Room (ER) of hospitals which consists of algorithms that mine data from the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Al was CEO at LiquidCool Solutions, a technology company that developed a patented liquid submersion cooling technology used in high performance data center market. Prior to LiquidCool Solutions, Al was co-founder and CEO of PEMSTAR, a start-up he led from launch through IPO and ultimately through merger with Benchmark Electronics. PEMSTAR provided engineering, product design, and manufacturing services to customers on a global basis serving the Medical, Communications, and Computing markets. IBM employed Mr. Berning for fifteen years, where he held numerous management positions in process engineering, supply chain management and operations. Mr. Berning received a B.S. Industrial Engineering and an M.B.A. from St. Cloud State University. In 2005 he was selected by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty to serve on the Rochester Higher Education Development Committee. He served as the Olmsted County United Way Campaign Chair of the 2007. In 1999, Mr. Berning received the national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He currently serves on the board of HMN Financial and the University of Minnesota Rochester Academic Advisory Committee.
Jim currently is a venture capitalist engaged in the development of strategic start-ups. Jim was also the Founder of Hunter Technologies, Sigma Circuits, Gorilla Circuits, and Founder of DDI (Dynamic Details Incorporated) and was instrumental in the successful divesture of DDI to Bain Capital through IPO in 2001. Jim also is the Founder and Board Member of Silicon Valley Bank, and Founder of Square 1 Bank.
